Red Diamond Love Letters
Our precious labs are two today! We think they have a magical life- sleeping in a king sized bed with their Daddy, eating first thing in the morning and again at 5pmgreat natural food, always being considered before their humans do anything, even for a few hours. They are hugged , petted, combed, brushed, massaged and ears cleaned and a few months ago, I started brushing their teeth everyday! They tolerate it and now even wait patiently while the other has her turn. They get small pieces of veggies I am making for dinner and brita pitchered water to drink. The best gift they have is being able to run free and hunt at our property “HeartSong” where they exhaust themselves almost everyday and swim in clean water afterwards before having a towel rubdown from Dad. At home, their yard is fenced in and ample for them to explore and race around and there is the LAKE, a rather large clean GreatLakefor them to swim in half of the year and retrieve frisbees and duck toys. Not too bad.
Except for excited jumping upon first view of guests which lasts 1/2 minute, they are well behaved and return when Mike whistles and are great bird hunters bringing back woodcock and grouse and soon duck to Dad. They smell good, not doggy and gamey, but fresh, they are so fragrant of woods and natural growth. We are proud of them and enjoy so much of their personalities, singing into each other’s faces daily and each eating only from their own bowls, and placing a soft paw on your arm and looking deep into your eyes when they need a little more attention. Gigi rests her snout on you and stares sitting down. Gabby stands carefully examining you to see what the next activity might be.
I could not let this day go by without a little acknowledgment for Gabriella Chandler and Giselle Kendrick, beautiful canines.

Michaela,
Copper has turned into a “Brag” dog when it come to upland hunting. I have never owned a dog with so much heart and gitty up. I plan on working him a little harder on waterfowl this year and get him dialed in on them. Early on he was introduced to ducks and geese but lately it has been pheasant, quail and chuker. Cooper has been therapy trained and he makes a good dock dog. I have never had him jump off an actual dock or entered him in an actual dock dog competition. He is my fishing partner and I always give him dock work with a dummy when we are done fishing. Copper will do just about anything I ask if he understands what I want. The biggest praises I get from other hunters is they can not believe how copper focuses on me in training and in the field. When he and I are hunting or training Copper is so focused on the task at hand he does not get distracted by other animals or people. I had a die hard German Shorthair man and preserve owner tell me he has never seen a lab worth hunting over. After going out with me and Copper pheasant hunting he said “I’ll hunt over your lab anytime”. We paid for six roosters that day and came back with ten, getting four carry over birds from other hunters.
I heard a joke the other day you might like. Dogs are more loyal and understanding than your wife. If you do not believe me lock both of them in the trunk of your car for four hours. Then when you open the trunk, see which one will come running to you. Ahhhhhhhhhhh of course this is just a joke.
Doug’s little puppy is awesome. She is sweet and definately likes birds, which is half the battle. My wife Dee teases Doug that if he ever wants to get rid of the pup she’ll take him. It does not appear Doug intends on taking her up on the offer. I hope to ge a hunt or two in with Doug this year. With that said, I am still an American Lab lover over all, but I only have you to blame for that, you gave me a dandy.
Keep me posted if you intend to have pointing American Lab pups.
Take care,
Mike

Michaela,
Quick update–Rowan is doing great. He and Mason are best friends. Such a calm, affectionate, fun loving dog we have never had. One habit he has not dropped is being underfoot when in the kitchen. It’s hilarious. You really have to look for him before you turn and walk.
So–thanks for making my family so happy. We all adore him.
The picture attached was taken at the beach about a month after his arrival. Thought you might enjoy it.
Best,
Bob

I am glad you emailed. I thought about you when we were hunting and was wanting to send these to you. I took these with my cell phone while hunting dove this year. That is my youngest son in the background. Jersey had a ball and is everything I had hoped she would be. She is a GREAT family dog and does a very nice job hunting. PERFECT for us! The last picture is after hunting. She was wore out. The other dog is my dad’s chocolate lab.
