~Puppy “Love Letters”~Cont…

Hi Michaela,

I thought I would give you an update on our little bundle of joy (aka poop machine). Her full time job here is terrorizing all the other dogs, but better they have puppy teeth punctures rather than me. She just got her 12 week shots and she weighs 24 pounds. We have had a devil of a time getting her ear well. The vet put her on Momentamax (sp?) which is the usual course of action. However, our special pup had an allergic reaction to it. She ended up with sores in her ear and an infection. We changed the meds and put her on antibiotics and are on the road to recovery. As of last Tuesday her ear is all clear except for a small area deep in the ear canal, so still medicating and cleaning.

Ellie is sleeping at my feet as I am writing this. She is perfect (well, most of the time). She is totally crate trained, sits and waits for a release to eat, sits when I open the door and doesn’t come in until I call her name (most of  the time). She knows her name and is very good at ignoring me when I tell her to come. She loves to retrieve and run off with the bumper. We are working on all of this, but only do as much as a 12 week old puppy mind can handle. Hmm, so much for the nap, she is untying my shoe now.

Wendy told me she told you she got a puppy. I was surprised since she was hell bent on getting a red female, and got a yellow male. But I know her heart, and really am not surprised. The poor lady she got him from – first her son dies, then last week her husband was involved in a hit and run (illegal aliens hit him and left the scene), leaving him in critical condition. He had his spleen removed and is on the road to recovery now. Reminds me of how blessed we really are…

Did I tell you Eleanor is perfect? – Well, except for the fact she just drug a weed into the house…Bottom line is we love her, and she is doing great.

He is still sooo amazing. I had some guy offer me $5k for him today. It was either a pick up line or he is just clueless. Anyway, Fenway is still dubbed the Governor of our Neighborhood in San Francisco. Many folks don’t even know my name but they will stop me to say hi to Fenway and know his name. Hilarious.

His training is going extremely well…already stops & sits at the crossing every city block. Truly amazing Pup. I attached some pics of him from his first walk in the city rain yesterday.

Oh, and he was already in limousine this weekend touring wine country in Napa with us. Went in all the wineries with us….we actually received got some free wine because they thought he was so darn cute. Not many people, let alone, puppies get to travel through wine country in a limo. I am so disappointed I forgot to take pictures, but it will not be his last wine country visit.

Our son did just as well!

Today he came back to me from over 100 away while playing in the ocean with a gf…

Michaela, he is such a social boy… he whimpers when we have to go home and leave the other doggies…I am trying to get him out every evening now to romp with other puppies… tonight there was everybody from great  dane to tiny dachsund…he loves them all and everyone thinks he is so beautiful and so good for only being 9 months old…

I hope you feel so proud of your puppies and all of your efforts to provide the rest of us with such wonderful companions…

Under the full moon….

Finn is doing really well.  He sleeps happily in his little crate by the bed.  The big one he seems to think of as an indoor toilet so far.  We added a wall to make it smaller.  But the accidents in the last week or so have been only 2 and both when there were guests in the house and Finn was not the focus of attention.

Now that it is hot, he is discovering that being wet is very comfortable.  He has a habit of tipping his water bowl (it is on the big wrap-around front porch) and getting the floor all wet and then lying in it!  The bowl is an old hand-thrown clay pot I got at some crafts fair ions ago so it is heavy, but also tipable.  Yesterday I let him play in the sprinkler for the first time — it was really hot and humid up here.  At first I had it on too high and it was hitting him in the face as he approached.  So I turned it down and he had blast trying to drink the sprinkles and stepping on the water and scratching the sprinkler.  It was pretty funny really.  Next I will put it on higher so he can run under it.  I think we need to get a kiddie wading pool!  He would love to play in an inch of water — like a giant water bowl!

He is still not a big eater — about 2 cups a day.  But he is also pretty sedentary so he is not burning up a lot.  And he is gaining, so he is fine.

We just took our first car trip in his new seatbelt.  We went the half mile to the end of the lane to get the mail.  He just looked around and did not whimper at all.  I liked that he stayed in his seat and did not try to crawl into my lap.  It was our first whimper-free drive.

He is pretty good about coming when he is called.  He follows me everywhere.  We are buddies.  We have a house guest arriving tomorrow who will stay maybe as long as a week, and our daughter arrives on Thursday for a month, so the house will get a little busier this weekend.  The 25 year old who grew up next door is coming for a visit this weekend.  I have been sending her pics of Finn — she is trying to get her husband interested in getting a dog when they get settled in a good place for a dog.  He has never had pets so he is hesitant.  It will be a few years so she has time.

Gracie’s pups are beautiful.  Looks like they all got a lot of the English look.  Won’t be long before you can have a quiet house again!

Will Adam put up videos of Clifford regularly?  It is great fun to see how he is coming along.
