We  had a  overwhelming responses from families wanting to adopt Ford. I will tell you a little more about him    and  why we got him back. We try really hard to pick the right loving families for our puppies. In the perfect world situations like Ford wouldn’t happen. If Labs stayed cute little puppies forever it probably wouldn’t. Unfortunately for Ford he got dealt a not so good hand  and ended up in one of those not-so-great families. I am guilty for falling for the the answers this family gave when they purchased Ford.

Our dogs are a part of our family, we just lost a lab and our other lab needs a play mate. They told me they take their labs with them everywhere and are very much apart of their family, they continued by saying , our labs are inside and sleep with our kids. They have plenty of room to run and we take them to the pond in the summer. Dad says I want a weekend hunting partner and new best friend. The reasons go on and on.

As with all of my puppies after Ford went to live with them I would call and check up on how he was working out for them. They said he was great they loved him he was a good boy, healthy and happy. The months went by and  I assumed he was doing good and he found a great home. This year in Kansas we had a terrible cold winter. I was out looking for an address of one of  Titans new friends. The temps that day were in the teens, it was icy snowing and the winds were blowing, I ended up going down an alley looking for this address and something caught my eye, a gorgeous fox red lab. I stopped for a better look, he was in a pen not big enough for 1 lab . I could see the older lab in a broken down dog house and he was laying outside on the ice, no food no water and a filthy pen. I guess I was in denial that this gorgeous   sad creature was one of my pups. My heart was pounding as I drove home to look at my paperwork to see where the family lived that had gotten Ford. It matched, with tears of anger  I called them. They said he hadn’t been out there very long that they had been gone and they would go get him and bring him inside. A few days later I drove by again. He was of course in the pen in the same conditions. Another phone call later I get the same song and dance. I finally took my husband by there and we agreed we had to get him out of there and back home with us. To many personal painful details  to write about how we finally got him back but he is home with us again. They surrendered his AKC papers, vaccination schedules and the  contract they broke  and of course.  Ford  was not his name that they gave him but we wanted to try to erase all the memories of the past so we gave him a new name.

This week we have been working with Ford on his basic  obedience mainly sit and stay and load up in the truck.

He adores Titan my 8 year old, and follows my husband everywhere. He prefers to be with another dog when he’s outside or he gets a little barky to get our attention like (“Hey left me out here alone”). Our girl labs have been taking turn babysitting him. He is very laid back, but loves to play. He retrieves well and gentle. He is not house trained,   but we haven’t tackled letting him inside yet. he still engulfs his food in 2 seconds like its the last meal he’s ever going to get. He is not aggressive , you can put your hand in the bowl while he’s eating and he will just eat around it, actually at this point he inhales his food. SO SAD. Health-wise no problems,   ( just a little underweight but he’s already gained lbs. in 5 days here). To sum it up he is a big gentle teddy bear.
